To mark the opening of Singapore International Water Week (SIWW) 2026 and the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Japan and Singapore (SJ60), a special commemorative reception was held at the Official Residence of the Ambassador of Japan to Singapore.

The reception brought together approximately 150 participants, including government officials and water sector stakeholders from both Japan and Singapore. Hosted by the Ambassador of Japan to Singapore and attended by Singapore's Minister for Sustainability and the Environment as Guest of Honor, the event provided an opportunity to reflect on the long-standing collaboration between the two countries while reaffirming their commitment to strengthening cooperation in the years ahead. It served as a meaningful occasion symbolizing the deep trust and partnership that Japan and Singapore have cultivated over many decades.

For Toray, it was a great honor to co-host this special event with the Embassy of Japan during a milestone year that marks both the 100th anniversary of Toray's founding and the 20th anniversary of Toray Asia Pte. Ltd., which leads Toray's water treatment business activities in Singapore.

Representing the co-hosting organizations, Mr. Kimura Kimio, General Manager of Toray's Water Treatment Division, delivered the toast. Guests raised a glass of NEWBrew, a beer brewed using NEWater, Singapore's high-grade reclaimed water produced through advanced water treatment technologies, including reverse osmosis (RO) membrane technology supplied by Toray.

NEWBrew symbolizes the successful collaboration between Singapore and Japan in the field of water sustainability and innovation. As such, it provided a fitting toast to open a reception attended by leaders and stakeholders dedicated to advancing global water solutions.

Japan and Singapore have built a close partnership over many years through cooperation in both water technology and water policy. Singapore has designated 2026 as the Year of Climate Adaptation, placing particular emphasis on strengthening water resilience and coastal protection.

Against this backdrop, Singapore's Minister for Sustainability and the Environment highlighted the importance of addressing climate and water challenges through international collaboration. Reflecting on the long-standing partnership between Singapore and Japan, she noted, "We share a deep understanding that strengthening water resilience and developing climate adaptation strategies are strategic priorities for our people's well-being."

The Minister also emphasized the value of partnership and knowledge-sharing in driving meaningful progress. Looking ahead, she expressed her hope that Singapore and Japan would continue to build on 60 years of trust and cooperation, stating, "Let us carry the same spirit forward for Singapore, Japan, and the rest of the global community."

She further underscored the importance of creating new ideas and partnerships that contribute to strengthening global water resilience and addressing the climate challenges of our time.

Guided by its corporate philosophy of "contributing to society through the creation of new value," Toray remains committed to improving access to safe and sustainable water through advanced water treatment technologies.

At SIWW 2026, Toray announced its latest seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) membrane, which combines industry-leading salt and boron rejection performance with outstanding energy efficiency. The company expects the new membrane to contribute to climate adaptation efforts by supporting more sustainable and resilient water supply systems.

As Japan and Singapore celebrate the SJ60 milestone, Toray will continue working closely with its partners to combine knowledge, expertise, and innovation, contributing to enhanced water resilience and helping address water challenges around the world.
